Helping Hands Bread & Butter Making Family Workshop: The Mac, Belfast - Sunday 8th March

  • Island arts centre Lisburn, Northern Ireland, BT27 4RL United Kingdom (map)

Bring your kids along for this two-hour hands-on family workshop learning how to make Bannocks (a traditional Irish bread made from oats), make butter from scratch and prepare a simple fermented sauerkraut.

We'll explore the history, traditions, and folklore of bread, butter & preservation in Ireland. Together we'll make one simple bread, we'll churn butter from scratch, and together we'll make a big batch of sauerkraut (everyone will get a jar to take away and ferment at home). Once all the cooking is complete, we'll tuck into fresh bread, newly churned butter, some delicious homemade jam and get to try some sauerkraut. A recipe pack will be provided so you can re-create the recipes at home.

The workshop will also include a short tour of our galleries and current exhibition The Lost Paintings by our Children’s Artist in Residence, Rachel Fitzpatrick.

Adults you get to stay and get involved in this fun filled workshop. Bring an apron or dress for mess!

This workshop is not suitable for anyone who cannot eat gluten or dairy.

Cost: £10 for one adult and one child
